Carol Sorenson is an avid gardener in Oceanside, California and is passionate about teaching others how to grow fresh produce from the garden in a way that is in harmony with nature. She grew up in a family that grew most of their fruits and vegetables for the year and actively helped plant, tend, harvest and preserve the harvests.
After moving to the San Diego area as a young adult she found that although she loved the variety of fresh produce available in the supermarkets, their flavors were no match for the taste of freshly picked fruits and vegetables from the garden. For the next 25 years while working in business, she attended garden classes all over Sand Diego and read every book she could find on growing edibles and ornamentals in the urban setting.
In 2010 she and her husband turned their typical suburban yard into a mostly edible landscape that provides fresh fruits, vegetables and herbs throughout the year. Their organic edible garden started in late 2010 soon expanded from a few fruit trees and salad beds to a full kitchen garden complete with composting and vermi-composting, fresh eggs from their three hens and a habitat for birds, butterflies and more. Meals created from the garden capture that taste she remembered from her youth, and she soon traded a fast-paced career in business for one that expresses her passion and reconnects her with nature. Along the way, she obtained a design certificate in permaculture and became a Master Composter. She enjoys designing edible garden spaces and teaching others how to create their own edible gardens in the North County area of San Diego.
